SIDING

Do you have to remove my old siding or can you side over it?  

Most homes do not require the removal of the existing wood shingles.

 

How long will it take to install my new siding?  

The average time required to install all trim, siding, gutters and shutters is 3 weeks, weather permitting.

 

Will the work damage my landscaping? 

If your shrubbery is close to the house, some trimming may be required to work.  We work carefully to prevent damage.

 

Will you put a dumpster in my yard or driveway that may cause damage? 

Most siding projects will not require a dumpster as we have a dumpster on our office site.

 

Do you offer an installation guarantee?

Bartlett Brainard Products guarantees our work against defective workmanship for the period the homeowner owns their home.

 

What happens if it rains during the job? 

Every evening we pick up and secure materials.  Rain will not affect the job’s quality, but may delay the completion date.

 

How long will my siding last? 

Most quality vinyl siding is guaranteed for a lifetime to the existing homeowner and 50 years transferrable to second homeowner.

 

Will new siding lower energy costs? 

There are insulated siding panels that offer an R4 and R5 rating and do lower heating and cooling usage.

 

Do I have to do anything to prepare the house for a siding installation?

Delicate articles, such as paintings should be removed from the walls.  They may be dislocated with the hammering of the siding to the exterior walls.

 

How often should I clean my siding? 

It is best to hose off the house (from the ground) when you see dirt collecting and power wash once every 10 years.

 

ROOFING

Do you have to remove my old roof or can you install another layer over it? 

Building Codes require removal of all shingles when there is already two or more layers.  If leaks or previous ice dams issues exist, we recommend not installing a 2nd layer.  Also, if you want an upgraded warranty that includes labor cost, the manufacturer usually requires stripping off the old roof.

 

How long will it take to install my new roof?

Depending on the size of the home and scope of the work, 2 – 4 days maximum, weather permitting.

 

Will you put a dumpster in my yard or driveway that may cause damage? 

We will bring a dumpster in for material removal, and your driveway will be protected with planks.

 

Do you offer an installation guarantee?

Bartlett Brainard offers a 10 year warranty against defective workmanship. 

 

What do I have to do to prepare for a roof installation?

If you have an attic with storage, a plastic covering should be placed over articles you want to protect from the shingle grains that may find their way into the attic.

 

Will the work damage my landscaping? 

Roofing projects are quite messy, but we pride ourselves in protecting your property wherever we can. 

 

What happens if it rains during the job? 

We watch the weather and only remove what can be installed in that day.  We try not to rely on tarps.

 

How long will a new roof last?

Many factors affect the lifetime of a roof such as the pitch and the harshness of the climate.  The average roof lasts 25 – 30 years.  The new lifetime shingles last longer and have 50 year warranties.

 

Will I save on energy costs? 

There are some roofing materials that offer savings on cooling costs.  These are mostly recommended for the southern climates.

 

How often should I clean my roof?  

This depends on how many trees overhang your home.  Keeping the roof clear of branches helps extend the life of your roof.  If dark streaks occur, you can pay someone to clean these off – use only professional power washing companies.

 

WINDOWS

How long will it take to install my new windows? 

Most residential installation projects take 2 – 3 days to complete.

 

Will you put a dumpster in my yard or driveway that may cause damage? 

Most window projects do not require dumpsters, as we transport debris in our trucks to our dumpster at the office.

 

Do you offer an installation guarantee?

Bartlett Brainard Products has carpenters on our payroll, and provide excellent, quality workmanship.  The windows are guaranteed against defective installation for a period of 20 years.

 

Will the work damage my landscaping? 

As with any construction project – this depends on how close the shrubbery is located to the home – some trimming may be required.

 

What happens if it rains during the job? 

Most window installations are rescheduled if it rains hard.

 

How much do windows cost? 

There are several different styles of windows, from storm windows to new construction bow windows.  Costs vary greatly.

 

How long will new windows last? 

Typically windows last between 20 and 40 years.

 

Will I save on energy costs? 

Yes.  Depending on what style you have now and type of installation required, the savings can be significant.

 

Do you remove the old ropes and weights when installing new windows?

Yes, and then we fill the pockets with insulation.

 

What should I do if I get a seal failure?

Call Bartlett Brainard with the serial number of the window.  We will order a new sash and install it for you.  If the window is still under warranty and the company is still servicing the warranty, there will be no charge.

 

How often should I clean my windows? 

 Once a year

GARAGE DOORS

How long will it take to install my new garage door(s)? 

 One day

 

What happens if it rains during the job? 

Most garage doors can be installed in the rain

 

Will I save on energy costs?

Yes.  First your new doors will be tighter fitting.  Second, garage doors are offered with high R efficiency, which makes sense if there is a room above the garage

 

GUTTERS

How long will it take to install my new gutters? 

Most residential projects take 1 - 2 days.

 

Will you put a dumpster in my yard or driveway that may cause damage? 

No

 

Do you offer an installation guarantee?

5 years against defective workmanship

 

Will the work damage my landscaping? 

No

 

What happens if it rains during the job? 

Work will be postponed until rain stops

 

How often should I clean my gutters? 

If you have pine needles or branches overhanging your property, at least twice a year.  If you have our leaf protection system - never!.

 

Are seamless gutters better? 

Yes; after a while the gutters that have seams may begin to leak.  .032 gauge aluminum is the most effective seamless gutter.
